Virginia offers excellent saltwater fishing off its shores, and there is an abundance of charter fishing boats that are available all along the vast Virginia coastline. The Chesapeake Bay is famous for its fantastic inshore fishing opportunities for striped bass, bluefish, flounder, trout, and spanish mackerel, and there are numerous charter fishing boats available within the bay's coastal communities of Kilmarnock, Ophelia, Poquoson, Reedville, Wicomico Church, and more. For offshore fishing, Virginia's coastal communities of Cape Charles, Chincoteague, Virginia Beach, and Wachapreaque offer access to charter fishing boats that venture out into the Atlantic Ocean in pursuit of shark, tuna, king mackerel, dolphin, wahoo, and marlin. For a change of scenery, Virginia also possesses excellent freshwater fishing for striped bass on several of its lakes. Charter fishing boats are available for giant striped bass on Smith Mountain Lake from Moneta and Roanoke.
